3-Point Shootout, Dunk Contest postponed at Staples after asbestos scare
    nba.com/spurs/beat | February 19th, 2011

SAN ANTONIO -- The 3-Point Shootout and Dunk Contest at Staples Center were postponed today because of safety concerns after debris fell into the arena. Saying it was using “an abundance of caution,” Staples Center released a statement saying it consulted with the NBA and decided to postpone both events, and wouldn't reopen the building until it was assured the arena was safe. A spokesman for Los Angeles's Department of Safety said the agency's inspectors were on the scene and had determined that no asbestos had been released and the building, if every inspection goes perfectly, would be open again for the All-Star Game tomorrow. A subsequent testing, however, revealed that the dust particles that set off the alarm didn't contain asbestos fibers -- a good result. The material is only dangerous if it is damaged, produces airborne dust and is inhaled.

The work was done by maintenance staff in the Staples Center attic above the ceiling following the Rookie Challenge game and prevented workers from laying down the Lakers' arena floor. “As the safety of our customers and employees are our top priority, we will not open the Staples Center today. We were absolutely assured the arena is safe, but we need to complete a second run of tests. If everything goes smoothly, the arena will be opened for tomorrow's All-Star Game,” Lakers owner Jerry Buss said. No makeup date for the 3-Point Shootout and Dunk Contest has been announced. The Lakers told ticket purchasers to retain them and to check the All-Star Weekend website, http://www.nba.com/allstar2011, for rescheduling information.

Still a long way to go before I'm satisfied  About the diamond, I'm a big fan of Poker... I was surfing the Internet a while ago and saw the ASCII codes table. I saw the four suits and since then I got them below my association signature.

Thanks a lot X, a little more than 20 games left, so I won't be very difficult. :D

Don't get scared on the asbestos -- I hate how 2K11 has the dunk showdown and the 3-point contest with the dumb, plain black and white practice J's and in the street, without any fans in the bleachers. I'm just waiting for a All-Star Court patch to be released in Live 08 so I can have a All-Star Saturday the way it should be. (Y)

I still think Thierry's friend Sneijder would have had a great Sonics story if he stayed in the forums for a while...

I'm still expecting big things for your ASG presentation that by the mere sight of the update I would jizz my pants. Go crazy on the eye candy!
If all your failed stories has another thing similar (the other one all of them being failures), it's the presentation.

lol at the Staple center asbestos, it is really not realistic seeing as Staples, unlike the real life MSG, is not undergoing renovation  Nice try though

If I remember correctly, you did it in Page 24 with Kobe and Page 35 with KD. Might do it with TD then.

He took some long, long vacations.

That's the idea! Will try to mix it up a little for the ASG, but I have something special prepared for the Dunk Contest.

Thanks man. About the asbestos, just needed an excuse on why I'm postponing the All-Star Saturday. Will do it when a court patch gets released for '08 (Y)

Played the All-Star Game, I have the movie and all the pics. Changed the sliders to "Casual" to see a dunk fest :cheeky:

Bryant, Anthony, West outduel Rose, Wade, East in 2011 All-Star Game thriller
Preview | Recap | Game Info | Full Play-by-Play | Boxscores (East All-Stars :: West All-Stars)
Played as the West

LOS ANGELES, February 20 -- Whether it be regular season, playoffs or the All-Star Game, you can take Kobe Bryant to the bank. Bryant only had 2 points in the first quarter, with the East posting a 7-point lead after it; then 10 points in the second quarter, as the West rolled for a 17-point lead at halftime. Kobe then scored 16 points in the second half, finishing the night with 28, and helping the Western Conference to a 150-125 victory over the Eastern Conference at the Staples Center. With flashy, mouth-opening performances from Bryant and Carmelo Anthony, the West recovered from a 141-139 loss at Dallas last year. The East had chances to tie the game at the third quarter, posting a 16-2 run to cut the deficit to 9, but Chicago's Derrick Rose threw away a lob pass and, after Portland's Brandon Roy made a shot from beyond the arc, Indiana's Danny Granger missed a 3-pointer of his own. Bryant then sank a fadeaway jumper to seal the contest -- the East didn't get any closer than 15 points. San Antonio's Tim Duncan added 14 points shooting 6-of-7. “What? My game doesn't change from a regular contest to an All-Star Game,” Duncan said. “I wish I could be involved in the flying dunk stuff, but that's just not me.”

Rose had an impressive performance scoring 24 points; he would have stayed perfect from the floor, at 13-of-13 shooting, but Bryant blocked his shot to the fourth row. Roy finished with 18 points for the West, while Granger scored 13 for the East. Anthony, who was traded to New Jersey a couple of days after the All-Star rosters were announced, had 25 points, five assists and seven steals, along with a couple of thunderous dunks in the second half and several comedic moments as he captured the MVP award. Anthony heard some boos from the crowd when he opted for a layup rather than a dunk on a breakaway in the second quarter. “I just didn't have the momentum so I just went for the layup. I was just getting warmed up,” he said. Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook, making his first All-Star appearance, hurtled down the lane in the fourth quarter for a powerful dunk as Boston's Rajon Rondo ran for cover. “You've got to think about your family,” Rondo said. “I've saw a couple of Thunder games this season, and he doesn't step on the brake.” Both squads had seven players in double figures -- Miami Heat teammates Dwyane Wade and LeBron James scored 19 and 15 points, respectively, for the East, while New York's Amar'e Stoudemire scored 14. Charlotte's Stephen Jackson and Orlando's Vince Carter came off the bench to add 12 apiece. Westbrook scored 12 points and eight assists for the West, while his teammate Kevin Durant scored 11 and Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki notched in 16.
