Re: Official 2k11 Impressions Thread

Got it friday. Played about 7-8 games I think, every mode except Association. Have yet to win my first, lol.

Huge learning curve especially because I also got a controller to go with it. Getting better with it but between playcalling and icon lead passing and iso motion and all that stuff I'm nowhere near flawless yet lol.

I like it a lot though, the presentation is better than what my impression was on you tube and I'm definitely overwhelmed by the depth the game has as far as controls go. some of that was definitely lost on me in 2k10 though and previous versions, so that's not all 2k11 technology I suppose. But it's very cool to be able to a lot of stuff that I never could. Even though I missed both I was very pleased when I pulled off a 'Rondo' layup (fake and spin) and a Euro step even though it got swatted haha.

I do have plenty of gripes with the game but for now the fun is winning it. But it's still very much an unfinished product. Thank God for this community for the quarter workarounds and roster patches (that I can't wait for lol) and getting play calling to work in My Player mode! (Y)

Best basketball game of all time.
I played association basically, almost 20 games, allready see a injury ingame, made some trades etc...
The only problem is sometimes with trades as you can make some crazy ones, in the association that i play with my bro, he made a trade Kurt Thomas(38 years)- 70 overall for Cousins, that don make any sense, but for example i've made a trade for Sanders(65 overall), where i have to give Carrol, Law, 1st round 2012, 2nd round 2012, that is a good trade as they hade 4 PF.
I think is a bug that happends sometimes.
But is so great, the graphics are awesome, also the cfs of the players, the little things, the collisions in the air, the new animations, the video of player of the game at the end of the games, etc, etc, etc...
It's incredible!!!

I believe Ronnie 2K mentioned something about different resolutions being an issue, though as Pdub pointed out that needn't be a problem.

My Player got onto the Magic with all of my game performances being "poor" and C+ player ratings. huh.... didn't play 1 4th quarter in the summer circuit either...always simmed from 3rd quarter to end of game.

played against the Heat in my 2nd game and my objective was to hold matchup to 2 points......so LeBron. Somehow I got him to never touch the ball and the one time he did the game saved my ass by having me switch men. didnt play in the 2nd half at all but somehow got the "wow you shut LeBron down" press conference. righto peoples, arrogant answer FTW.

My main impressions after having played a few exhibition matches:

-As most of us had hoped, the physics of the game have improved vastly to 2k10. I actually thought the physics had improved alot when the major patch for 2k10 came out, but 2k11 has taken that and raised the bar even more. Players don't float through the air on their way to a block or a dunk.
-AI is much smarter. I find myself having to run more players than I ever had in the past just to get a decent score on the board. No more just dumping it inside and watching your beast PF go to work in the post. The CPU's double teams are alot more relevant and they react alot more realistically to their surrounds. Similarly at the other end if you can't get your shit together on D, they will burn you by exploiting the mismatch or open player.

These are the two things that serve us realism junkies in terms of in game play and they have been improved immensely, it's not hard to see why this game already is reviewing so well.
As for the menus, it doesn't actually bother me personally that it's the same as 2k10. I'm appreciating the familiarity and I for one quite enjoy being able to navigate all over the place with the controller. Means I can laze back in my leather boss swivel chair rather than crouch forward over a mouse.
The ever new features help keep the 'out of game' aspects fresh and interesting too. The more team management/analysis options are put into the game, the more involved and engrossing the experience becomes.
I'm sure I'll start to encounter bugs over time but on the surface 2K have outdone themselves yet again (Y)

I really like how they expanded the animations inside the paint, how they added more signature moves such as the contested signature shots (i love em). But i'm starting to see a lot of bugs and glitches, even crashing. More of them than they had in 2K10.
What I hate the most is after I play a game in My Player (doesn't happen a lot, but sometimes, it does happen a lot too), after the Jordan Player of the game, after the 'saving user profile' thingy, and when I finally press the 'Quit' button to return to home, it crashes to desktop. So I'll play the whole game again :( Anyone of you experienced that crashing?

Okay played the game and I must say, 2K10 is out of here...the isomotion is slightly better and more smooth along with the gameplay, it's hecka smooth. But I can't do behind the back :(
I did My Player just to test it out, I didn't make mine official. It's gotten really better, more rewards for doing something right...controls are responsive but sometimes have to press it twice and I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. (Y)

How is it missed that players don't leave the game when they foul out? It's kind of ruining association, and had a big impact on some Jordan Challenge games.

Tried the game but only on PSP, obviously it is very different in terms of gameplay and graphics to the other platforms. It has the same kind of game modes My Association, My Player, Street but it does not include a Jordan Challenge :( and on My Player you would only choose one team and there will be no try outs or even summer league, your'e undrafted though.

i had jordan foul out of a game, i got too aggressive going for steals in the 4th, dunno never got a team that much into foul trouble to know if the ai abides foul outs.

Against the Pistons I managed to get Edwards to foul out. He remained in the game.

In the JC against the Hawks I managed to get Wilkins to foul out with 24 points when 6 minutes remained (playing 12 min quarters) in the 4th. He remained in the game with 6 fouls, then made his 7th foul but still remained in the game. Luckily I managed to stop him from scoring his 25th point. He was getting more aggressive, taking the ball outside and shooting right in my face.

Probably has something to do with the generic players if it only happens in the Jordan Challenge.

NBA Live 10 had a similar foul out bug. It's an unusual issue to appear at this point in both series.

God I still really suck at the game. Can play lockdown D, but I am really bad at running plays (I'm damaged goods after a year of taking it in on every single possession in 2K10) and rebounding. Will hold the computer to 35% shooting and get blown out.

Also, its cool that you can play 12 minute quarters with out of box sliders, but an hour+ is way too much of a time commitment, even in several parts. Playing a game with the Wizards, and I think that if I end up losing, I may break down in tears.

Having difficulties on the new controls. I can't do cross overs, can't skip time outs, spin moves and backdown. I'm using a keyboard.

Practice play calling in practice mode with defenders on (man to man).
Also set the difficulty to Superstar or one higher than the difficulty you're using. The difficulty can be changed if you bring up the menu while in practice.

Just barely beat the Clippers. On All- Star mode, they bite into your lead fast as hell. Just a pain in the ass.

Who were thy going to and how were they scoring?

I played with the Clips today in an nba today game against the nuggets. I usually don't do well with Baron Davis, but I had 9 points early with him. I couldn't get anyone going, but played good enough defense to stay in it. I ended up taking the lead in the 3rd, but Denver just adjusted well in defense stopping my drives and forcing Kaman to miss in the paint.

I went 0-11 from 3pt range, quite the opposite of my previous game of 5-10. 2 of those 11 were accidental full court shots as I was trying to advance past cutscenes.

Overall it was a good game, I didn't notice any "cheating" and lost by 6.

Played that one too. I had Blake and Baron hot. Blake I was doing the eurostep/hopstep dunks/layups in traffic and with Baron I was hitting mid-range jumpers. Couldn't hit shit outside the arch though. JR and Melo detroyed me with drives and dunks all game though. Nothing unrealistic (i need to learn to feather the sticks on D) but I ended up loosing by 10 because of fouling and missing my 3s at the end.

Currently enjoying 2k11 so far, although I am not loving that trade finder thing. I prefer having the trading block for it. What's the use of the rumor mill anyway?
