question about elite and 2k highly interesting!

Postby needcollec on Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:22 pm

lets say 2k or elite keeps battling for the better basketball video game then eventually one of the games achieves the absolute closest replica of real life basketball since their would be nothing left to improve on what would the games do? like its basically all good things must come to and end so while 2k may be out front right and their also flying to the finish line if the basketball game is to good and theirs no room left for improvement how would they make money people would eventually get tired of the game since theirs no improvements on it

Considering how we're literally at least decades away from that point I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'd worry more about lying in your thread titles.

Interesting question.

I reckon there's always something you could do though. There'd always be new technology coming out like the Wii and now Playstation Move and Kinect, plus all kinds of bells and whistles you could add to give people something new. I'm not sure there'd ever reach that point but if it did, I suppose the games could expand with licenses for different leagues (including them all in the one game), maybe some creative fantasy elements that could be explored in addition to the sim-orientated options...I'm not sure they'd run out of things to add or the opportunity to refine the game in some way.

Haha, misleading title indeed.

No way of knowing because really do we have any idea what kind of hardware/software capabilities we're going to have in 20 years from now?

My image of gaming in the fairly near future (10-15 yrs):

-Completely real time physics based interactions between everything, inlcuding lighting,
-Artificial Intelligence that literally learns from it's mistakes, gets better every play, screw online, playing against the computer is more interesting
-Glasses free 3D graphics, with a resolution/area higher than the new iPhone 4 (retina display)
-Personally I still think this whole Wii, Move, Kinect thing is still mostly a fad, people (like me) are too lazy to go through the hassle of calibrating glowing dildo's while standing up just to play a game with less control, what I'm saying is I still think there'll be some type of physical controller analog stick thingy

Nvm this is alot less fun than I expected. What I'm saying is hardware has a long way to go before things like this above can happen, and then it takes even longer for the software to catch up because of hardware standardization and whatnot. Basically there will never be a perfect game, and there will always be room for improvement because there's always going to be features missing that some douchebag will want, or things won't play the way people want.

I don't know about that, I think it's here to stay but at the same time I don't think it's suitable for all games. I'd agree that a more traditional type of controller like a gamepad is probably never going to be completely outmoded, it's what I prefer when it comes to basketball games.

Well look at Madden. People buy it every year yet i cant find any difference from the previous year except they may change some of the buttons and thats about it.

I'd much rather support NBA2K11, they didn't abandon the PC market like Live did. Plus 2K11 is the better game hands down.

This will apparently be Skynet's evolution that will lead to Judgment Day.
