NBA Elite 11 Gameplay Video (Operation Sports)

Postby Andrew on Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:28 pm

Steve just posted the following Tweet on the OS Twitter, mentioning that they'll be posting an exclusive NBA Elite 11 gameplay video sometime tomorrow:

For the NBA Elite 11 fans, we will have an OS exclusive gameplay video sometime tomorrow. #NBAELITE11 Spread the word...

So, feel free to discuss the video here in this thread (I'm guessing one of us will embed it) when it comes out. :)

Five minutes of raw gameplay on at least All-Star difficulty would hopefully make for some promising footage.

why would they pick these two teams? LOL . . . I KINDA like what I'm seeing, cause it seems like it's easier to run your plays. . .I hate that camera angle. I wonder if they took out the playoff atmosphere feature they had last year.

I dont see why they would release the bucks vs ny either smh the game is starting to sound overrated from what ive seen im going to 2k for the first time 2ks commentary is still waaay better jeff van gundy sounds like he was in a booth just reading what's on paper and not just reacting to watching the game like he would normally disappointed with that and i thought they would switch up the intro its like live 10 when i play the demo i better see something different or im going to 2k

looks decent. love the playcalling. I'll have to experiment with sliders global edits on this game like i do on all nba live games. Animations do still look a little somewhat stiff but like I said nothing sliders and ratings cant fix. I can live with it. Fix the rim sound. Rims dont sound like a swish that when you dunk. Thats been there since Nba live 06 smfh.

Bucks/Knicks makes for something a little different I guess.

I thought that was much better than the Elite 24 videos, nothing quirky along the lines of free throw line dunks. I don't like that camera angle and feel the broadcast view should be the default, but since that angle is still in the game and can be selected that's a very minor gripe. A couple of the passes didn't look quite right, which is something I've noticed in the 2K11 videos as well. Still not bad in either case though.

Nice to see some plays being run, I'd like to see some user vs CPU or CPU vs CPU videos but I guess we'll have a chance to post those videos ourselves plus get first hand impressions once the demo comes out. Aside from the camera angle I thought the presentation was great, I agree Van Gundy could be a little more hyped but aside from that the three man team is sounding pretty good and true to life.

Movement looked pretty fluid, looks like the controls are responsive (which was the impression coming out of the community event) but of course that'll be something I have to experience for myself. I liked what I saw of the post moves, the awkward jerkiness and slow-down in the animations that were present in NBA Live 10 seem to be a thing of the past which is definitely for the best.

Default game speed might be a little high but so long as that slider is there we should be able to do something about that. I'd be interested to know what difficulty setting the game was played on as well.

+'s
- ESPN presentation is good
- Good pace of the game
- Refreshing to hear new commentary
- Good play calling
- Generally the right action is happening (just not animating so nicely)
- I can see how this camera angle could be good for gameplay
- Jennings jump shot fake to layup was a nice animation sequence
- ball deflections
- dribbling looks like it would be good to control

-'s
- players are too skinny
- same game intro as last year
- awkward passing animations
- Maggette's dunk animation
- Players jumping too high
- Jennings did a weird jump stop (jump over/ through a player kind of)
- awkward in air contact animations (Amare's post up hook shot)
- when players are fighting for post position (without the ball) their arms are just constantly going through each other
- players near the ring shooting jump shots (Gallinari) should probably be hooks/floaters/ tear drops etc
- no fouls called.... at all?
- despite new commentators, underwhelming commentary
- player awareness? (Bogut cutting to the hoop calling for the ball but looking away from the ball handler)
- lots of over the back (awkward looking) rebounds

Overall:
Similar feedback to Live 10 in that the gameplay result is generally good, but the animation feedback for it is bad. I still think this is going to be fun to play despite all the negatives, but it's very obvious for EA where they are falling short and what to work on for E11

Real-time physics

1:10 - Felton is lightly bumped by Jennings. User control is still maintained, unlike previous versions.
2:18 - Salmons bumped by Stoudemire as he goes up for a layup forces a bad (and ugly)layup attempt. Live 10 woudl have been a long 2-man animation during which you would have no control, but looked better.
2:21 - Maggette slightly bumped by Gallinari or Stoudemire during close shot.
2:30 - Walker collides with Salmons.
2:56 - Chandler deflects pass, ball is loose.
3:00 - Felton physical defense on Jennings.
3:02 - Pass is deflected by Felton or Stoudemire.
3:15-3:17 - Gallinari and Maggette collision during post up scenario. Players are not locked into this position like previous games. Collision during layup.
3:25 - Salmons collision with Walker.
3:44 - Walker collision with Salmons.
4:22-4:27 - Felton is able to move around while protecting the ball from the tight defense of Jennings.
4:30 - Maggette deflects pass.
4:44-4:47 - Gallinari's tight defense stops Maggette's drive attempt.

There is more going on than what I showed. Every shot, every player running in to each other while cutting, the collisions during screens, etc.

The real time physics has allowed for much more dynamic style of play. Notice how it looks more like a free flowing game of basketball where you can do what you want and you have the controls to make the decisions you want to make on the court. While in previous versions it was really limited to playing the version of basketball that they wanted you to play.

For what guys say about last year "looking" better, I do agree. But the moment you picked up the controller, it got so much worse. This year it should be the opposite. It should feel better when you are playing.

I agree with many people that have said the collision animations are bad. Especially the in-air collisions. It just seems like they are too exaggerated.

I think one of the things the developers need to look at is the actual jumping physics. It still looks like they have animations that simulate jumping instead of actual jumping physics. I believe that causes things like the adjusted layup defying gravity, and players that don't bend their knees to jump or seem to get pulled into the air.

The learning curve is actually quite big this year. None of the videos that have been released show you what a skilled player can do. It's all random people who don't know how to play. That's why the videos look bad, except for this one.

I'm glad they slowed the game down. For anyone who thinks it's too fast, it could be that your just too slow to keep up.

I like how there is contact and the guy on offense is trying to draw the foul and screams. It's also good to see a layup with a lot of contact not even touching the rim.

I just really don't like the whole graphics ... the dribbling looks akward, maybe the control is better than 2k's isomotion, but 2k's looks way better imho. Same for passing and some other animations.
I also find that the commentary can't keep up with 2k. They have the better commentators though.(Not that I like Van Gundy or Marc Jackson, but they are just more famous for their TV coverage than Harlan and Kellogg). It's not a bad commentary, but sounds a bit more knocked together.

One thing I do like about the collisions is the lack of canned moments and warping/getting sucked into the two man animations and jostle systems of previous games. That's something they've been promoting with real time physics and while it might not always look good, I'm optimistic that it'll be fun and feel realistic to play.

The thing I really liked was CPU Bogut was being Bogut. Always looking to set a screen or squaring up to receive the pass. It's just a shame the crappy users didn't give it to him once in the low post. After all, he has a history of dominating Amar'e :P

Apart from that, best to wait for the demo.

The gameplay seems solid and the game looks fluid in this video. The animation area needs improvements. I like the defense. I'll wait for the demo to see how it feels.

Really hard to tell very much from this presentation. The biggest change, the controls, can't be seen on the screen. The real physics can be detected and look good from what I can see. But again, need to have the demo to really feel the difference.

Jeff van Gundy is my favorite commentator (sorry, he just is :-)), but in the presentation he is just not exciting to listen to. Marc Jackson has the same problem sometimes, but not always. The “to Salmons” comment being played five times in five minutes already annoys me. But hey, give the boys some time. The game is not finished yet! .

Any word on when the demo comes out?

Only word on the demo is September, no specific date as yet. I think we can take that to mean not for at least another week or two.
