NBA Live 13 Wishlist Supplements

Postby Andrew on Mon Nov 07, 2011 9:52 pm

It occurred to me that I haven't yet posted the supplementary Wishlist materials that I sent along with our main list.

In addition to the main Wishlist (broken down into Essentials, Things We'd Also Like To See and Things to Fix & Avoid), the PC Petition and the results of our Wishlist survey, I also submitted the top 15-20 or so wishes in a few areas, to stress the importance of certain items and explain a few things in greater detail. I also sent in lists of features from previous NBA Lives and NBA 2K as collected from threads here in this section, links to some community reactions to NBA 2K12 so far and a small collection of screenshots to illustrate a few different points.

For those who are interested, here are the various lists. Please note that these lists have been finalised, submitted and will not be updated further. That said, feel free to post your thoughts and further ideas as the devs are keeping tabs on the Forum and we can always send along anything of importance if need be. We just won't be amending these lists any further.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to our Wishlist initiatives this year, remember if you want to see the main list you can check it out here.

Top Gameplay Wishes

These are the key points for gameplay.

  • In a nutshell, most people want a realistic, sim-oriented game with players who look, play and perform like their real life counterparts, with real team strategies and playcalling in effect.

  • This also includes shot distribution, player tendencies, hot zones, basically everything that went into player and team DNA and more.

  • Gamers also want smooth, fluid animations with responsive controls. Players need to feel like they have weight and a physical “presence”, but not move sluggishly with clunky-feeling controls like they’re wearing concrete boots or running in mud. Make sure users can break out of animations and that the transition is as seamless as possible.

  • Balance between user and CPU abilities. In other words, anything the CPU can do, the user should be able to do and vice versa. Ideally, the CPU should challenge the user with real strategy rather than winning with cheap tactics.

  • Retain the concept of skill based shooting that was to be introduced in NBA Elite 11, rather than a “dice roll” concept. Still have player ratings have an impact on a player’s ability to make shots from certain spots on the floor for bigger or smaller success windows (also affected by the defense), with the user’s input – either making the “window” or not – determining whether the shot goes in rather than random chance.

  • Have balance between offense and defense; reward the user for playing good defense and ensure that neither is too overpowering. Avoid blind interceptions and other cheap stuff as much as possible.

  • Ensure that there is a turbo/sprint button so that players can run faster if necessary. It isn’t missed in the halfcourt but on fastbreaks, it’s a must.

  • Make use of the right stick for dribbling moves, hands-up defense, steals (move stick right to steal with right hand, left for left hand) etc as in Freestyle Control in older games, but also make use of the face buttons; kind of a mix between the older controls and what NBA Elite 11 was going for. Passing and shooting controls should be face buttons.

  • Provide the user with a variety of moves they can perform including euro steps, drop steps, runners, floaters, up-and-under moves and all sorts of post moves. The turbo/sprint button could be used as a modifier for performing more advanced moves.

  • Have in-game injuries, but don’t have them dependant on fouls. Have them put players out of action for the rest of the game, a couple of minutes, a full quarter or whatever and in game modes like Dynasty, have lasting injuries including ones that put players out of action for an appropriate number of games.

  • Include a variety of gameplay/tendency sliders so that users can tweak the game as needed. Some presets – default, ultra simulation, arcade, etc – would also be welcome.

  • In-depth and detailed playcalling, with branching plays and on-court diagrams to help out the user. Have player specific plays that are assigned to players and taken with them/integrated into their new team’s playbook if they are traded. Include inbounds plays and the ability to designate the inbounder.

  • Fix fatigue/substitution logic so that players play a realistic number of minutes. Continue to make use of secondary positions and slide players over to a different position to accommodate a player coming off the bench for realistic rotations.

  • Allow the user to alter shots in midair and choose whether they want to try for a tip, putback dunk or just grab the rebound.

  • Maintain a realistic ratio of offensive rebounds to defensive rebounds. Don’t allow the user or CPU to consistently grab offensive rebounds unless they do a good job boxing out and don’t make it too easy to score off offensive rebounds (sometimes the CPU will just grab offensive rebound after offensive rebound until they score).

  • Retain pick and control, or some means of calling for a pick (as well as setting one when playing off-ball). Bring back off-ball controls including cuts, jukes and other moves to get open.

  • Let players decide whether they want to call a full or 20 second timeout. Make sure the number of timeouts remaining is displayed in the pause menu so users can easily look up how many they have left.

  • Go to the pause menu in between quarters rather than going straight into gameplay, so that users can make substitutions, adjust strategy etc.

  • Allow custom controller configurations.

  • Allow games to be saved in progress and picked up again later on.

Top Dynasty Mode Wishes

These are the key points for Dynasty Mode.

  • Users want a deep Dynasty Mode that offers an in-depth simulation of the NBA calendar with front office/management tasks, roster management etc in multi-season play.

  • Have realistic simulated stats, with players putting up true-to-life numbers according to their abilities and improvement/decline. Stats should generally look realistic for at least the first few years of Dynasty Mode, before there are too many changes to the league. Make sure bench stats aren’t too low; some sixth men play over 30 minutes and put up numbers similar to starters.

Also, utilise qualifying limits in league leaders so that they are realistic, ie no players shooting 10/10 free throws on the year and leading the league with 100%. Show all-time leaders/record holders and career stats.

  • Scores in simulated games should also be realistic, with very high/low and near-record blowouts being a rarity.

  • Also improve the All-Star and awards selection logic. In previous games, Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year have been a bit buggy with confusing selections. Also include East and West Player/Rookie of the Week and Month awards.

  • Don’t have too many blockbuster trades, have sensible trades between teams. Allow CPU initiated trades to be toggled on and off.

  • Make sure there is a traditional Reorder Roster function (to change the starting five and bench order) in addition to any rotation/minutes management function.

  • Allow users to select custom season lengths: 14 games (Conference), 29 games (all teams once), 58 games (all teams twice) or 82 games (full schedule).

  • Allow users to select more than one team in Dynasty Mode, for multiplayer Dynasty games.

  • Include the ability to hire and fire staff including the head coach, at least one assistant coach, trainer and scout. Also have coaches retire; it’d also be cool to have retired players become replacement coaches.

  • Include an NBA Academy-like setting where users can train and develop their players, making sure there are drills to improve all abilities. Allow users to make use of the 5-on-5 scrimmage at any time however so they can practice with their team, not just during a designated monthly development sessions as in NBA Live 09 and NBA Live 10.

  • Retain the “push” Dynasty approach introduced in NBA Live 08 rather than the PDA format of last gen. Have trades and free agent negotiations completed in real time rather than having to wait a couple of days to hear back, to allow for back and forth. Keep the negotiation mini-game for players (and staff members!).

  • Accurately represent free agency with Bird Rights, 10 day contracts, contract extensions, Restricted and Unrestricted Free Agency, etc. Same with trades and other elements of the salary cap.

  • Allow multi-team trades (at least three teams). Also allow trading of draft picks and Draft-day trades.

  • Include the full All-Star Weekend as part of the schedule.

  • Expand the trading block to allow users to actively shop players and invite offers from other teams.

  • Bring back the Confirm/Cancel option on trades, so that players can be shopped and deals agreed to in principle. When CPU teams reject deals, have them explain why they don’t want to accept it (they want more, they feel it would leave them too weak at a certain position, they want to get younger, etc). Have teams present counteroffers.

  • Include Dynasty cutscenes (like these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6JiphKoXS0), magazine covers, etc.

  • Keep sim intervention as an option, but also allow users to sim to the end of a game and jump back in to play out the game if they like.

  • Add the D-League and Summer League Circuit. Allow teams to have more than 15 players during the offseason and cut the roster to 15 when the season begins, then assign players to the D-League for development.

  • Give users the option to edit and export/share/import draft classes. If the NCAA game makes a comeback, importing draft classes from that game would also be cool.

  • Allow users to view boxscores every game of the season and Playoffs. Allow these boxscores to be saved and exported/uploaded, along with screenshots for Dynasty threads.

  • Allow player jerseys to be retired and don’t allow players to be assigned retired numbers, including those that have already been retired in real life.

  • Add the ability to start Dynasty Mode with an expansion team.

Top Game Mode Wishes

These are the key points for modes other than Dynasty.

  • Implement an in-depth single player career mode, similar to what NBA 2K12 have done with My Player. Create your player, begin with showcase/college All-Star game, improve your draft stock, make your way into the league, develop as a player, collect endorsements, try to make the Hall of Fame etc.

  • Similarly, add a mode like Creating a Legend where you play a single player career as a real NBA player.

  • Bring back All-Star Weekend. Improvements to the dunk contest would be welcome but even as it was in NBA Live 09, it’s much better than not having it at all. It enhances Dynasty Mode and is fun to have on the side to kill time.

  • Some kind of Street Mode (similar to Blacktop, more so the one in NBA 2K11) would also be welcome.

  • Bring back Scenario Mode.

  • Expand Create-a-Player options and bring back Create-a-Team. Other creation modes would also be welcome but those are the two biggest wishes in that regard.

  • Allow editing of dunk packages and other signature styles/elements.

  • Expand practice mode to allow full team practices including scrimmages, drills, free throw shooting and running plays (with opponents and without). NBA 2K12’s practice mode and Training Camp mode offer good examples of this.

  • Keep the standalone Playoffs Mode, so that players can set up and play through their own NBA Playoffs whenever they like. Allow selection of different playoff lengths (eg 1-1-1-1, 3-3-3-3, 5-5-5-5, old school 5-7-7-7 and the full 7-7-7-7).

  • Similarly, retain a separate single Season Mode without all the bells and whistles of Dynasty Mode, for a more straightforward NBA season (and subsequent Playoffs) experience.

  • Have a Dynamic Season/NBA Today-type mode where players are given daily games to play, either as an exhibition or customisable makeshift season mode (as in Dynamic Season).

  • Include an online Dynasty Mode, along with a mode similar to Adidas Live Run, traditional Online Team Play (with the regular teams), leagues and standard ranked/unranked gameplay.

  • Include a FIBA tournament mode.

  • Add the Freestyle Challenges (dunk contest and three point shootout) and other mini-games like H.O.R.S.E. etc.

  • Add historical content/challenge modes, like the Jordan Challenge/NBA’s Greatest.

Top Presentation Wishes

These are the key points for presentation.

  • Make full use of ESPN integration and have the game’s default camera angles, the overlays and general production/presentation accurately represent a real NBA broadcast.

  • Make commentary sound as organic as possible with natural sounding conversation, anecdotes and reactions to the current game situation as well as the current and recent seasons in Dynasty/Become Legendary. Have the commentators react with appropriate excitement and play off one another as in real life.

  • Make sure that measurements are in feet, inches and pounds in all versions rather than centimetres and kilograms for the PAL version. It takes away from the presentation to see the metric system used; at the very least, include an option so that users can toggle between the default imperial system and metric system if desired.

  • For the View Player screen, display information as a “player card” as in NBA 2K12 with career stats in table format (kind of like the NBA.com profiles) along with their nickname, bio data and other relevant info.

  • Include a detailed championship celebration with the Larry O’Brien and Bill Russell Finals MVP trophy presentations, with David Stern doing voiceover (as in NBA 2K12). Offseason trips to the White House for the champions and so forth would also be nice.

  • Get David Stern and Adam Silver to do voiceover work for the Draft in Dynasty and Become Legendary, as they did in NBA 2K12.

  • If there is a PC version, please ensure that the menus are as user-friendly as possible, with the ability to navigate them using a gamepad as well as mouse-friendly functions/pop-ups etc.

  • Allow the user to activate simple and detailed on-court play diagrams to assist in running plays.

  • Include animated play diagrams in strategy menus.

  • Include arena specific chants, sounds etc.

  • Add moving hair for players with long hairstyles.

  • Add more accessories including singlets, custom sleeves, mouthguards etc.

  • Keep dynamic crowds and have crowds react intelligently to how the game is progressing (hot for the home team on a big run, quiet or booing when the home team is playing poorly or the away team is on a big run). Have crowds wear team jerseys and colours, especially during the Playoffs (like Chicago’s “See Red”, Mavs fans all wearing blue in Playoff games, etc)

Other Key Stuff

Here are some other popular wishes/important points.

  • Include as many retro and special jerseys as possible for all teams

  • Include legends/historical content

  • Punish online players who quit/disconnect with a loss and award a win to the other player; possibly call a no-contest if the player who’s winning quits/disconnects and assign the win/loss if the person who is losing quits/disconnects.

  • Increase the limit on Created Player slots.

  • Add championship banners to the rafters when you win championships in Dynasty/Become Legendary

  • [BUG] Quick substitution options (Starting Five, Three Point, etc) didn’t work properly in NBA Live 10; toggling them had no effect.

  • [BUG] Foul out rule was bugged in NBA Live 10, with players being able to remain on the court with their sixth foul and/or being able to return after fouling out.

  • [BUG] Players occasionally have been assigned salaries of $0 in Dynasty Mode.

  • [BUG] Not a recent one, but in past games deflections and blocked shots have sometimes counted as turnovers. Blocked shots have sometimes also counted as two missed field goal attempts or no missed field goal attempts. Just something to watch out for!

  • [BUG] NBA Live 10 had some random lock-ups/crashes during gameplay, which seem to be the result of glitched replays.

  • Update FIBA teams; also allow them (and other special teams) to be customised.

  • Include as many common first names and surnames as possible in the audio files, so that they can be assigned for created and generated players.

Re: EA Sports NBA Wishlist Supplements

Features from previous NBA Live games

These are specific features from previous NBA Live games (as well as items from the NBA Elite 11 demo) that users would like to see return in future games

NBA LIVE 95

  • Team rankings (scoring, defense, rebounding, ball control, overall) as well as the overall ratings.

  • The "player card" approach in the View Player menu, with career stats in a table along with all the bio data.

  • Flagrant fouls.

  • Starting lineup intros onto court (obviously brought up-to-date)

  • Ability to create custom teams

  • Tracking user stats

NBA LIVE 96

  • The ability to export rosters from a saved season. I don't think any other game in the series has had this option (possibly NBA Live 97, it's been a while). While it's not too difficult to do in the PC version, it'd be a handy feature to have in-game for Dynasty Mode etc.

  • Ability to trade players from an empty roster slot when editing rosters.

  • Have all the rookies & legends as hidden CAPs

  • Expansion franchise draft

NBA LIVE 97

  • Animated play diagrams. They do appear in other games as well, but I needed something from NBA Live 97 and can't think of anything else at this time.

NBA LIVE 98

  • Ability to save a game in progress. NBA Live 99 and NBA Live 2000 were the only other two games in the series that allowed this. NBA 2K does it, EA's game desperately needs to bring it back.

NBA LIVE 99

  • Single player Practice Mode.

NBA LIVE 2000

  • Custom teams. Also featured in earlier games but probably done best here. Just needs to be a bit more detailed and have a better selection of generic basketball themed art.

  • Legendary players and All-Decade teams.

  • Ability to confirm/cancel trades in Dynasty Mode, so that players can effectively be shopped.

  • Teams give reasons when they decline a trade, so the user has an idea why it wasn't accepted and how they could possibly make a trade work.

  • Ability to trade players for an empty roster slot in Season/Dynasty Mode if the other team has the cap space, essentially completing a "trade for cash".

  • One-on-One Mode

  • Humourous prospect scouting reports (plays defense like a sieve, as quick as my grandmother etc)

  • Face in the game. (Could use gameface from EA Sports World)

NBA LIVE 2001

  • Ability to fake a pass.

  • A multi-team trade interface; at least three teams would be fine, four teams would be great. Even more would be fantastic but those trades are a little rarer in real life so four would be sufficient and three would still be better than two.

  • Ability to save replays in video format.

NBA LIVE 2002

  • Tough to pick something for NBA Live 2002. Uh...well, Michael Jordan was in that game. His contract with 2K Sports not withstanding, it'd be cool if we could get him back in the game at some point in the future.

NBA LIVE 2003

  • Ability to switch between different practice courts.

  • Multiplayer/multi-team Dynasty Mode. Allow the user to switch teams and re-assign control of teams to the CPU.

  • Beach Street Court

NBA LIVE 2004

  • Standalone Season Mode in addition to Dynasty Mode. A feature of earlier games too with Franchise Mode, but mentioned here since NBA Live 2004 was the year they re-branded to Dynasty Mode.

  • Ability to trade draft picks. Allow trades during the Draft, too.

  • Dynasty Cutscenes

  • Magazines in Dynasty Mode

  • Import Draft Classes from NCAA BB game (would require a reboot of that franchise)

  • Teams retiring player jerseys in Dynasty mode

NBA LIVE 2005

  • All-Star Weekend Mode, along with the Slam Dunk School

  • Freestyle Dunk and Three Point Shootout - just for something a little different, a mini-game to kill five or ten minutes.

  • Freestyle Air, specifically the rebounding mechanic (tip-in, tip dunk, regular rebound)

  • Quality layup/dunk/follow-up animations

  • Ability to export boxscore stats for both teams

NBA LIVE 06

  • Use the traditional re-order roster screen in Dynasty Mode to manage the starting lineup and bench order. Mentioned here because it's the last time that option was available to us.

  • Option to play 29, 58 or 82 game seasons in Dynasty Mode.

  • The best approach to team staff was also introduced in NBA Live 06. It could stand to be revamped including the inclusion of the ability to hire and fire head coaches but being able to hire staff with different abilities and then manually assign them tasks was better than hiring average rated staff and then having to earn and spend "Dynasty Points" to upgrade them, as in more recent games.

  • The right analog controls from this time were also pretty good. I'd leave out Freestyle Superstars because the game has evolved beyond the concept, but the offensive and defensive controls using the right stick are probably still my favourite of the series.

  • Probably the last game with enough sliders to really customise the game to the level desired (and even then, a few more sliders wouldn't have gone astray). A lot of these sliders need to come back, we need to be able to tweak the game to our satisfaction.

  • Player body growth/development for young players in Dynasty Mode.

  • Triple threat moves from XBOX/PS2/PC versions were nice. There were a few special ones for players with certain high ratings that you could perform using a quarter circle or other combination on the right analog stick.

  • T-Meter for free throw shooting

NBA LIVE 07

  • Signature jumpshot styles. Lots of them.

  • ESPN integration in the menus (and the radio content too, it's not that important but the deal is in place so might as well make the most of it).

  • X-Factor Players (PC)

  • Footplanting Technology (360)

  • Team Chemistry

  • League Rumours

NBA LIVE 08

  • PC RELEASE! Though ported from the Xbox 360 version and with the patching flexibility of some earlier versions, like 06 which had better support for larger resolution patches.

  • Go To/Signature Moves that are simply executed and effective in beating defenders, but not overpowering. I thought they did a pretty good job with them in the 360/PS3 version of NBA Live 08.

  • "Push" Dynasty approach. Dynasty Mode needs a lot of enhancements and fixes to existing features like simulated stats but the concept they introduced in NBA Live 08 360/PS3 was headed down the right track. That also means avoiding using a PDA interface for signings and trades so negotiations can be completed in "real time". The free agent negotiation mini-game introduced here was also a good addition.

  • Online Team Play using NBA teams.

  • That fake-spin move that was performed by pressing up on the right stick.

  • Ability to break out of and string together animations.

  • Show the pause menu between quarters instead of immediately going into the next quarter, so that we can make substitutions.

  • Own the Paint rock, paper, scissor post game.

  • Play-by-play Simulation Intervention

NBA LIVE 09

  • Pick and Roll Control

  • NBA Academy, will practice drills for the user to master the game and in game modes, develop players. Just needs to be expanded upon (and drills added so that ALL skills can be developed).

  • Online Team Play leagues and clubs.

  • Trading block in Dynasty Mode. Would also be better if we could actively shop players.

  • Player DNA, tendencies, all that. Everything that goes into the players playing like their real life counterparts. Scoring distribution needs to be a bit better to avoid point guard domination, though.

  • In-game injuries, ideally not dependent on shooting fouls.

  • Ability to specify whether you want to call a 20 second or full timeout AND show how many you have left in all on-screen displays and on the pause screen.

  • Control Scheme (X Dunk, B Shoot)

  • The Mutlicourt Practice Arena to shoot around in

  • Hot Spots (with the NBA Live 09 display)

NBA LIVE 10

  • Turbo button. Was in previous games of course, but mentioned here since they sought to eliminate it the following year.

  • Dynamic Season. Good concept to play some more meaningful exhibition games that NBA 2K also does with NBA Today and another alternative to the more traditional Dynasty and Season modes.

  • adidas Live Run

  • Size-up Moves (with signature size-ups)

  • Signature dribbling moves.

  • Standalone Playoffs Mode. A feature of a lot of the earlier games too but mentioned here since they made a point of bringing it back in NBA Live 10.

  • Retro and special jerseys. The ones we've already had and more.

  • The substitution logic in NBA Live 10 was pretty good in the way it used secondary positions and moved players already in the lineup over to other positions to accommodate subs. That's what needs to happen. Default fatigue effect could be better, though.

  • Atmosphere choices (Season, Playoffs, Finals)

  • Away team's fans in the home team's crowd

  • EA Locker to share game saves

  • Home team booing specific players

  • Multiyear Roster Updates

  • Ability to shoot around while the game is loading.

NBA ELITE 11

  • Elimination of the "dice roll" approach to shooting, leaving it up to the user's timing and skill (with the window for a good release depending on player ratings). That concept was good, the controls could've been better.

  • Pro-Hop and Euro Step controls.

  • Become Legendary. Hopefully it'll be fleshed out a bit more over the two year lay-off but the game needs an individual career mode in addition to Dynasty/Season mode.

  • Online Dynasty/EA Sports Basketball Association.

  • ESPN integration in the broadcast.

  • Real time physics. Needs polish as we saw in the demo, but the concept itself and desire to move away from canned animations is the right idea.

  • Free throw shooting method.

Postby Andrew on Mon Nov 07, 2011 9:56 pm

Features from NBA 2K

These are features from the NBA 2K series that people would like to see implemented in EA’s future NBA sim releases.

  • PC release

  • Association mode’s depth in Dynasty Mode

  • My Player mode’s depth in Become Legendary/a single player career mode

  • Detailed practice mode that explains and lists all the moves and lets you practice everything; free throws included.

  • Michael Jordan and other historical content including classic teams, decade All-Star teams and a legends pool.

  • Signature jumpshot styles (including different shot types like fadeaways), signature moves and dribbling styles.

  • TV style presentation with sideline reporters, organic commentary, situation specific commentary (especially in game modes); dynamic commentary.

  • Players checking in at the scorer’s table when being subbed in.

  • Over the back calls, offensive goaltending and tie-ups for jump balls

  • Incidental injuries not accompanied by a foul. Injuries also have an impact in game modes, causing players to miss time.

  • Dynamic face animations, ie players reacting to the situation at all times.

  • Physical momentum driven animations.

  • Tendency sliders. Global tendencies, team/coach tendencies, and player tendencies. Brings more authenticity and unique playstyles for different players and teams. Especially when they change teams through trades and free agency and coach changes.

  • Interactive court and stadium atmosphere eg NBA 2K12 allows users to interact with the front row, players diving into the crowd, loose balls going into the crowd, etc.

  • Blacktop/Street Mode

  • Customisable control configurations

  • Daily game mode like NBA Today (like Dynamic Season)

  • Deep Create-a-Player and Create-a-Team modes

  • Multi-team Trades

  • 2K Share: like the EA Locker but it allows public uploads, so you don’t have to add someone as a friend/contact first to download content.

  • Ability to save a game in progress

  • Official updates for rosters, jerseys, courts, faces etc as implemented in NBA 2K12. Or will be, when the lockout ends.

  • In-depth strategy and playcalling, including branching plays

  • Ability to hire and fire head coaches in Association

Nice work covering the core wants. Hopefully in Dynasty mode they add a league wide"Commissioner" veto option. I don't want to have to turn off CPU trades or control all 30 teams to prevent stupid trades and roster imbalances. This would be a relatively easy solution if trade AI isn't good

I love every single idea of this. My only problem is that i wouldnt mind them using a shot stick, but 'Face Buttons' are just as good! because button shooting.. are judged by shot ratings and Not Luck. Hold the face button and release it on time and Out of that "Player's Percentage' is the chance of it going in the Basket. The Only difference between the New shot stick In my opinion is You aim with it.
The player should already know how to aim at the basket! Except Shaq lol.

I also sent in the main Wishlist (which I'm not going to repost here since it has its own thread), the PC Petition, the results of the Wishlist Survey and some of the reactions to NBA 2K12, the main likes and dislikes that people have posted so far. 11 documents in total, 12 images to illustrate this or that. Agreed. I'm sure there's a few tidbits here and there and they might request specific feedback/clarification in certain areas but apart from that, I think we covered things pretty well.

Here are some of the additions I would like to see (some have been listed by others):
1. Custom teams
- Team name
- City
- Arena Name & floor design
2. Custom Rosters/Players available for everything BUT ranked on-line play
3. Manage Players, Rosters, Dynasty and League schedule via web
4. Synchronize players with NBA.COM or ESPN.COM data sources... you could import ANY previous NBA player from their historic stats
5. Include D-League (send players to D-League; call players up from D-League; play as a D-League Team)

That's my list short list... what do y'all think?!

I would really like for them to increase/decrease the strategy of the cpu AI on the different difficulties instead of lowering/boosting probabilities and windows for shots, steals, turnovers, etc. The cpu AI should adapt better defensively to your offensive tendencies with double teams and strategic defensive plays and substitutions on the higher difficulties more then they would on the lower difficulties. The same should go for their offensive strategies, adapting to your defenses and trying to bait you by tossing different defenders and double teams at the users strong performing players based both on their ratings and any player who could be performing well during a single game or stretch of games in a season, playoff, or franchise mode.

I would also like to see less "perfect play" by the cpu. The cpu doesn't usually make mistakes in the game, and only a quick reacting user can stop them. However, I would like to see cpu players making mistakes when there is good pressure on them. Such as making a bad pass while double teamed, traveling, going the wrong way when trying to get past a screen, or even 5 second inbound violations.

Even though people may use it to look at glitches, or create them, I really want a truly free replay camera in NBA Live 13. I mean let me put the camera on the ground, in the rafters, in the top row of the stadium, behind fans, in the alleyway to the locker room, and have no restrictions on how I rotate the camera either. It's a pain when you get an awesome play, but can't get the perfect angle to share it with.

True. And allow us to zoom in close enough to see the sweat coming out of their follicles and far out enough to get a nice fish eye/wide angle look.

For sure. A completely free replay camera along with a decent amount of preset angles (similar to NBA Live 2000's range in the case of the latter) sounds good to me. (Y)

I'd really like to see something that 2K doesn't have which is a draft list. When your in dynasty mode the first year you will see what team drafted what rookie and if there were trades on draft night. Just something I thought would be exciting.

Re: EA Sports NBA Wishlist Supplements

Postby Nick on Wed May 30, 2012 11:41 am

I just read through the dynasty mode wishes and was pretty underwhelmed to say the least. What a boring list!! They're all really obvious features.
Even if NBA Live grants all those wishes it will still be your standard run-of-the-mill dynasty mode that we've played for years already.

What makes dynasty mode fun, to me, is the MAKING HISTORY factor. I've been playing dynasty/assiciation modes for almost 10 years now. What i would love to see the most is an EXTENSIVE history section. Whether it be league history, franchise history, or player history... get on it! I.e. a player getting retired, extensive profile stats + achievements, team overall W%'s, etc. 2k made a decent attempt at this but it is a pretty small feature in their game.

The BIGGER PICTURE things is what is key for dynasty mode.

Cos what's the point in simming season after season with your team if it means nothing? MAKE IT MEAN SOMETHING.

I want to be able to open a page that orders all the teams by the amount of championships they've won. I want to be able to open a page that orders players by the amount of rings they have, or career PTS, and other stats too. I want to a player to get into the fall of fame and open up his H.O.F profile and check out his career stats and achievements... i want to see a ranking of players ALL-TIME based on their stats and achievements. Stuff like that.

Another thing with dynasty mode i'd like to see: Have CPU teams change their sim strategy depending on THE PERSONNEL (players, staff, etc).

Dear NBA LIVE production team, for a reference on a great season mode - PLAY FOOTBALL MANAGER 2012. That thing is a masterpiece. It's gameplay is rubbish though. If NBA LIVE (or 2k for that matter, if they're reading) can make their dynasty mode even half as good as football manager then i'll be one happy bastard.

The list may seem dry, but it's stuff that needs to be done nevertheless. Dynasty Mode's been an afterthought for a few games now and is way behind Association Mode in its core features and tech. That's not to say it doesn't need stuff like you mentioned as well, by all means it does. But to use a basketball simile, you've got to be able to make a good chest pass before you can start throwing no-look alley-oops. Right now, Dynasty Mode is lobbing into the front row.

That said, hopefully Dynasty Mode goes above and beyond what we've been asking for a few years now, fixing the stuff that really needs attention and getting innovative as well. That's definitely stuff we can and should include in the next Wishlist, since you're around again you'll hopefully help us out with some fresh ideas when the time comes in a few months. Mentioning the basics and stuff that's currently below expectations is still an important part of providing the development team with constructive feedback though.

I wish NBA LIVE 13 should have added these key additions to the Dynasty Mode;

1. New name should be Franchise Mode,
2. NBA ACADEMY, I deeply love this feature,
3. Trade Rumours & Trade Block,
4. 29 games,
5. A deep Contract negotiations with restricted players and 10 day contracts,
6. The menu's have to be a realistic Espn Integration.

I Hate the Hangar, it's so boring. :x

1. Why should they re-name it? Does it really make a difference?

2. It definitely needs to be enhanced. In NBA Live 10, there weren't enough drills to develop offensive skills. That needs to change. We also need to be able to scrimmage at any time, not just on scheduled training sessions for player development.

3. Absolutely.

4. Definitely a feature a lot of people want, it'd be great to see it back.

5. Completely agreed.

6. More important that the in-game presentation has full ESPN presentation, which it will this year.

I have no problems with The Hangar, but a fresh new practice arena to shoot around in would be nice.

Sorry if this was answered somewhere else, but I can't make a search for "PC". There's a rumor that there will be a PC version this year, has it been confirmed or denied?
Can the mods make a blocked sticky post with the title "PC Status: Unknown" and change it to confirmed or denied when so?

Got a source on those rumors?

I don't think they have any priority to bring Live back to the PC, yet. I remember they wanted to go digital delivery, and they have Origin so they can do that. I don't believe they will until they have the resources to support the online infrastructure for PC and program the game in a way so it takes advantage of online connectivity and content as a possible security measure against pirates.

I'd like to see the venue for the all-star game change from season to season. Just for a slight bit of added realism.

It would be cool to have a player from your team playing in the all-star game on your home court. (Y)

That would be a nice touch. I believe in some of the previous games they've had the real court for the first year and a generic court for use in subsequent years in Dynasty Mode; even if they did that and randomised the displayed/announced location year to year, it'd be cool. 30 fictional All-Star courts and one real one might not be feasible but that'd be a viable alternative.
