The best case for dribbling on the right stick is that you can choose the direction with the left stick, and the move on the right. With isomotion, you have move the left stick in a way that not only chooses the move, but points it in the direction you want to go.

Is there ever a reason you'd want to do that?

I think choosing the direction you want your dribble move to go is important. Far too many times a spin or crossover move can take you horizontal or you can even crossover the wrong way where the ball is going towards the defender. It's difficult to choose the direction without knowing beforehand how to set your player up to get the right angle out of the move.

I felt a lot better about the Isomotion in NBA 2K11 too but I still favour right stick controls for dribbling. I'm not saying it's the only effective control method, just the one that I personally prefer.
