After dropping the name 'NBA Live' and undergoing a disastrous attempt to re-brand the long-running and rather successful hoops simulation franchise in 2010 as 'NBA Elite', EA is going back to its roots with with the reveal of 'NBA Live 13'.
This according to a post on the EA Sports Facebook page that featured the above image and the promise that more details will be coming soon. It was a Tweet from Cleveland Cavaliers' Rookie Kyrie Irving, who apparently had the chance to visit with EA's Tiburon studio down in Florida while in Orlando for this weekend's NBA All-Star Game, that tipped virtual ballers off to the game in the first place though. According to the Tweet, EA is looking to position the new NBA Live as the #FutureOfBasketball, a lofty goal considering how the debacle of NBA Elite (the would-be cover of which is pictured above), which suffered from a notoriously bad demo and was cancelled just before launch in 2011 to give the team another year of development.
Of course, in that time EA has focused on the more casual market with the return of NBA Jam while 2K Sports has laid claim to the NBA simulation crown with its stellar NBA 2K franchise. With EA returning to the simulation arena though, it's safe to say that fans of basketball video games will welcome the competition in hopes that it will spur both camps on to produce the best possible products.
That's all we know right now, but according to Irving, more info about the new hoops simulation game will be revealed this Monday over on the EA Sports Facebook page. We'll keep you posted once an official announcement of NBA Live 13 is made and bring you all the details on what you can expect.
