EA Staff Twitter and Forum News

Talk about NBA Live 10 here.

EA Staff Twitter and Forum News

Postby Arcane on Wed Jun 17, 2009 1:45 am

I decided to place it in one thread any random news or information leaks the Producers give on social networks like their Twitter sites and other Forums. I decided to go about this way as so the information is easy to find and highlight to the NBA Live Series Center Community. This thread is designed to inform you guys of any bits of detail that are going into the game
Two things Marcus has mentioned today are:

# Just got off the EA SPORTS LIVE Radio show.about 6 hours ago from DestroyTwitter

# Make sure to keep checking the EA SPORTS Inside Blog this week. Sean O'Brien will be posting. I think you'll "witness" something cool.about 6 hours ago from DestroyTwitter
More info on the 'witness' subject on Operation Sports forums:
Our REGULAR weekly cadence is Friday, but last week and this week are special circumstances. Expect it on Wednesday with Sean on the radio show on Thursday.
http://www.operationsports.com/forums/2 ... ost12.html

# @GRush5 Visuals recieved a big upgrade this year. I'll let @ryansantos speak to that. As for the responsiveness, same thing = upgrade!7 minutes ago from DestroyTwitter in reply to GRush5

Stuff from Mike Wang on Operation Sports forums

You guys are right that it's a huge challenge to create a cheeseproof game that resembles real NBA basketball online. Having said that... that is our goal for Live 10. We're doing our best to make sure defense is getting just as much attention as offense and that the game is free of exploits. i'm pretty confident that this year's game will be a special experience online. And I look forward to punishing cheezers with legit bball strategy.
http://www.operationsports.com/forums/2 ... st121.html

I didn't care for the lock down mechanics in 09 either. The onball defensive play has been completely reworked. I'll explain more later.
http://www.operationsports.com/forums/2 ... st125.html

The substitution logic was re-written this year, and yes, it takes secondary position into consideration when selecting rotations. It's behaving much better overall and the minute management looks more realistic.
http://www.operationsports.com/forums/2 ... st791.html

I don't want to go into details quite yet but I just wanted to assure you guys that defense was a big focus this year. I agree 100% with Sovartus that basketball games are too often skewed toward making offense fun and ignoring defense. And we wanted to make sure that Live 10 was fun on both ends of the floor. It's quite challenging to strike a balance between a game that allows for free flowing high scoring games, while still allowing for those 30% FG shooting grind it out battles... but I'm confident that fans of both types of basketball will be able to replicate their style of play this year.

More from Mike Wang on Operation Sports

I don't think catering the game to reward people for playing good basketball, and punishing people who cheese, will negatively impact sales at all. I think even cheesers will be happier if the gameplay is balanced on both ends of the floor. People cheese because they want to win at all costs. If we can create a situation where the path to winning is to play smart hoops, and people don't feel like they have to use a certain exploit to be successful, then it's a win win for everybody.

I hope you know what I mean. Thanx.

Yes, this was a big focus for us this year. It'll be touched upon in one of the blogs.

*Marcus has seemed to have injured his back today so I'm not sure if we'll have too much more from him though it appears he's taken muscle relaxer meds.

Well scouted, thanks! (Y)

I'm all for cutting down on the cheese. Given the amount of players who talk about wanting to see less cheese and more strategy, I doubt it would affect sales either. Quite the opposite in fact, seeing as though it would be catering to the fans' desires. Definitely good to see they're going that route, I'm not a big online player but I'm in favour it all the same, offline and online.

Just something Marcus mentioned on Operation Sports forums

The only thing I couldn't get past was the scoreboard placement. I kept changing the camera settings in vain since the scoreboard was always in front of everything, hindering the experience.

Please fix it man, such a small thing keeping our beloved game from being better than it could.

the score ticker won't be a problem this year

I'm guessing a new style of scoreboard, or at least some placement options. Either way, fine by me though I'm not bothered too much by the scoreboard in 09 truth be told.

It sometimes gets in the way for me personally especially when first playing. I always thought one that faded in and out would be ok but i'll see what they use in Live 10.

I suppose a permanent scoreboard more accurately reflects the current broadcast style of ESPN and the other networks for that matter. The option to move it around, select a smaller scoreboard or have it fade out/only appear after made baskets (or display the clock when there's under a minute left) as they used to do in the 90s would definitely be nice though and better cater to everyone.

Possibly, though presumably they want to replicate a TV broadcast so any scoreboard they use will be in that kind of style.

Here is a bit of info about the Blake Griffin character in NBA Live 10 from Marcus on Operation Sports forums.

VERY Early guys. We finished Blake's head about a two months ago, and our capturing studio had an early build with him in it.

365 was finished after the last game of the finals I do believe

everything else will need to be done with community (ea locker) rosters

Really? I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather not have in the virtual booth than Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, moreso Jackson. Well, perhaps Sean Elliott but then he'd be alright if they could supress his Spurs bias.

I wouldn't mind if they updated the team given that Kerr is no longer calling games but I see where EA is coming from where they want to build a library of commentary audio that they can continue to update and add to each year.

Some new info from Beluba on Operation Sports forums

We tried over the back fouls but most people found them frustrating because they couldn't discern what they were doing wrong to get them. So we disabled them. We do have some off the ball fouls but they are tuned to be quite low... again, because they seem random to most people.

And yes, the AI will throw oops this year. A last minute change went in last year to reduce them because they were happening too much... that change basically caused the AI to never throw them at all.

Simply having off-the-ball fouls will be a nice improvement. It should also help a little with substitution frequency as big men in particular traditionally haven't committed enough fouls unless the shooting foul sliders are turned way up.
